भारत के उत्तरी हिस्से में आमतौर पर बारिश सामान्य ही होती है। बीते कुछ सालों में तो कई बार यह बारिश औसत से कम ही रह जाती थी, लेकिन इस साल बारिश ने सारे रिकॉर्ड तोड़ दिए हैं। 2001 के बाद पहली बार पंजाब, हरियाणा, उत्तर प्रदेश और दिल्ली में इतनी भारी बारिश हो रही है। हालात यह हैं कि पंजाब को आपदाग्रस्त घोषित कर दिया गया है। करीब 1000 गांव डूब गए हैं और लाखों लोगों को पलायन के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ा है। यमुना में जलस्तर इतना बढ़ गया है कि दिल्ली में अलर्ट है। इसके अलावा सतलुज, चिनाब और रावी नदियों ने तो भारतीय हिस्से के पंजाब से लेकर पाकिस्तान तक में तबाही मचा रखी है।
Generally, the rainfall in the northern part of India is normal. In the past few years, the rainfall was sometimes less than the average, but this year the rainfall has broken all records. For the first time since 2001, such heavy rainfall is occurring in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. The situation is such that Punjab has been declared disaster-hit. Nearly 1000 villages have been submerged and lakhs of people have been forced to migrate. The water level in Yamuna has risen so much that there is an alert in Delhi. Apart from this, the Sutlej, Chenab and Ravi rivers have caused havoc from the Indian part of Punjab to Pakistan.
