Two female laborers lost their lives and two others were seriously injured in a traumatic accident in Faridabad, Haryana. The accident occurred during the excavation of the basement under renovation work at the old Faridabad railway station. According to police, the incident is around 12:30 pm.
According to the report of the news agency, the police said that a group of laborers were involved in the removal of soil at the excavation site. During this time the soil was being extracted with the help of a Earthmower (JCB), when suddenly a large part of the land collapsed and four laborers were buried under the soil.
Immediately after the accident, buried laborers were taken out and taken to civil hospital with the help of other laborers and machinery present there. Doctors at the hospital, 32-year-old Navita, a resident of Lakhisarai district of Bihar, and 34-year-old Nandita, who was from West Bengal, were declared dead.
The injured laborers have been identified as Kajal and Govinda, both residents of Jharkhand. Both are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Police officials said that all the workers were staying temporarily at the construction site of the railway station.
A senior police officer informed that the incident was being investigated by the Government Railway Police (GRP). No formal complaint has been filed on behalf of the workers yet. There is deep resentment among local laborers and people about this incident. He says that despite repeated warnings, safety devices and standards have been ignored. The railway administration has expressed condolences to the relatives of the dead and assured all possible assistance.
